Dear Doc Rock,
My friends and I always buy each other something for Christmas every year. This year I got laid off from my retail job and I don't have a ton of money. My friends suggested that we do a secret Santa, but the limit is $100 and I really can't afford it and am embarrassed to tell them.
What should I do?

I really think you should've had this discussion a little earlier with your friends.
I know it's cliché, but, Christmas isn't about the gifts you give.
This is the time of year where everyone should be showing each other compassion and kindness. This year was hard money-wise for a lot of people and your friends should be a little more understanding if you can't spend $100 for one gift. I think whoever you have for secret Santa will appreciate what you give them, if you can swing it, just spend $50 on them, you can get a lot of great things for $50, especially now.
It's the thought that counts, not how much you spend. Happy Holidays, Rock
